This is the latest full-length novel by Chen Jiming, winner of the China Good Book of the Year award and the National Five-One Project Award.
The novel follows a Tang dynasty court painter who travels to Dunhuang in search of colors. It tells the history of Dunhuang, the integration of the Tuyuhun and Han peoples, and the caves of Dunhuang's evolution into places of popular, everyday life.
The novel transcends divisions between past and present, frontier and central plains, and different ethnic groups. Across a broader span of time and space, it reveals the vast spiritual world contained within Dunhuang, one of the wellsprings of Chinese culture, and its irresistible Chinese charm.
The novel continues to showcase Chen Jiming's strengths: telling stories through small, focused details, and using nuanced relationships and inner lives to reveal a sweeping historical perspective and the currents of the present. The result is a full-length work of sophisticated storytelling and exceptional artistic quality.
The writing style of this book is very unique and the writing style is very delicate. Through small incision narration, the grand history is shown in the relationship and psychology of the characters, which feels particularly powerful! And I really like the characters in the book, they are all very vivid. However, what I hate the most is the villain, it's so irritating! Overall, this is a good book worth reading.
Story-telling and historical, it has higher reading value than online articles!
It's a great tour of history, culture and biographies. There's a lot to learn.
Take your time to read it, it's interesting.
