A Nanny in the Palace

During that year of severe drought, I sold myself into the palace as a maid.

I looked forward to leaving the palace at twenty-five and reuniting with my family.

Once you enter the palace gates, it is like sinking into a deep sea. When I finally looked back, everything had changed beyond recognition.

Along the way, I gained a great deal and lost a great deal.

Thankfully, in the end, I protected the people I wanted to protect.

I suppose this was a good, long life after all.
