Calling the Bewitching Butterfly

The Lost Butterfly Fragrance is an ancient poison from the Western Regions. Its flowers bloom once every hundred years, and their fragrance lasts a century. A secret treasure of the nobles of the Western Regions, it was introduced to the imperial family by a Central Plains spy in the last century.

An ancient book records:

“In the borderlands grows a wondrous flower, a single cluster every hundred years.

Those who live are robbed of their souls; those who die have their bones devoured.

Its dark purple fragrance lingers. Make it into incense, and it summons lost butterflies.”

The Crown Prince of the current dynasty was frail and sickly. Bedridden for more than ten years, he wanted nothing but a peaceful life and took no interest in politics.

He was Xu Jinyan, the sickly, ugly Crown Prince of the current dynasty.

He was also Gu Jin, the eldest son of the wealthy Gu family of Jiangnan.
