Flowers by the Grave

(Ah, this book borrows a little from other stories, so some parts may seem familiar.)

(Ensemble cast. No marrying, no yuri for Emilia. The viewpoint shifts, possibly from the Soviet side to the German side, with “…” marking the changes. A quick note: most of the characters are either crazy or completely unhinged. A few are more normal, but don't treat most of them as normal people. The story mainly follows four transmigrators and two locals. Lao Ai is half a transmigrator, with some memories of the future, but I'll count her as a local. The story doesn't adhere entirely to real history and may include fictional elements.)

(The story has little impact on historical events. They're just ordinary soldiers.)

First, we speak of flowers, then of graves.

Emilia Frank was born in Hamburg. Like most soldiers, her life and soul were wretched and brief. In the long river of history, they were merely fleeting passersby.

The war didn't drive her mad. It was strange: she gradually adapted, without becoming numb, at least on the surface, or feeling pain.

She wasn't suited to fighting. She couldn't even recognize a gun, didn't know the ranks, and couldn't tell who was in charge.

Despite all that, her friend Klaus Anna Bach was still willing to call her “a beautiful flower.”

She never thought about her parents. Even Jikeshin only mentioned them once in a while. It seemed she didn't care about them at all.

Yet somewhere deep inside, she still remembered her picturesque hometown, her father reading the newspaper outside their front door, and her mother making desserts…
