Wuxia: Three on a Journey

The male protagonist, Lei Jitian, does not know who his biological father is. He and his mother depend on each other, living a simple life together. His mother is cheerful and optimistic, and from the time he was little, she often told him tales of legendary heroes of the martial world. She is also skilled at making clever gadgets, so Lei Jitian greatly admires heroes and has a knack for inventing things himself.

But their simple, happy life changed one rainy night when Lei Jitian was seven. A group of people pursued them, forcing mother and son to flee all the way to a sheer cliff. His mother left him a wooden box and a token, telling him to keep them hidden. Then she slipped a piece of malt candy into his mouth and told him that if his mouth was sweet, his heart would not feel bitter. He had to smile and be happy, she said, because that was how he could drive away bad luck.

His mother wrapped a bundle of weeds in Lei Jitian’s clothes, then leaped off the cliff carrying the makeshift dummy. The assassins left. With tears streaming down his face, Lei Jitian clamped his hand over his mouth and waited until dawn. Inside the wooden box, he found a book and a letter. In it, his mother revealed the truth about his past. Lei Jitian resolved to become a peerless hero whose name would shake the land, clear his parents’ names, and avenge them.

Time flew by, and Lei Jitian was sixteen. While traveling, he reached a city and met the elegant young Lin Jiuyuan.

The two continued their travels and came across a gravely wounded man in the wilderness. The man they had rescued woke up several days later, but had lost his memories. He was, however, a formidable martial artist. And so the three young men temporarily joined forces, going on to face many more adventures together.
