After enduring nine generations of turmoil, King Wu Ding and the shaman queen Fu Hao joined forces to campaign across the north and south, hoping to revive the Great Shang. But they fell victim to a treacherous plot by a villain close to them. Before their campaign could succeed, they died, and the infant Prince Wu was rescued by his followers and hidden in the mountains. Since both he and a woman from the modern world, Ji Lü, wore the Shang dynasty's sacred Black Bird Rings, which could communicate across time and space, the prince somehow made contact with her. With help from Ji Lü, his confidante, Yi Jiang, first his sister-in-law and later his beloved, and the ghost shaman Fu Qian, who was both his enemy and ally, he not only avenged his parents but, through a twist of fate, assumed the identity of Ji Dan and founded the Zhou dynasty.
