The Young Husband of Hunter Lan

On a sweltering summer day, a major incident shook Anshan Village: An Ziyu, the An family’s son, had jumped into the river.

The villagers were in an uproar. When they went to find out what had happened, they learned that An Ziyu’s stepmother planned to marry him off to her nephew, a notorious good-for-nothing, scoundrel, and lecher known for miles around.

Before the villagers could condemn her cruelty, the stepmother sneered. “An Ziyu fell into the river yesterday and was carried back by a naked man. That man refused to marry him and left right away. Tell me, folks, who else would want an indecent boy like him besides my nephew?!”

The villagers fell silent.

The stepmother smiled smugly.

“Who says I won’t marry him?”

A tall, broad-shouldered man appeared before them without anyone noticing.

When the villagers saw his face, they were all stunned. Since when did their village have such a handsome man?!

Ever since his father died, An Ziyu had been mistreated by his stepmother. The only thing he was grateful to her for was what happened one scorching noon. The heat was so fierce it felt like the sky was on fire. Everyone had gone indoors to rest and escape the heat, but he was sent to the river to wash clothes, where he fell in.

Spring turned to autumn, snow melted and green returned. The hardships of his first half of life gave way to the seasons in the mountains, simple meals, and warm nights beneath a steady pillow and cozy blankets.
