This three-book set includes The Spanish Beggar, Beggars and Choosers, and The Beggar's Wish.
The Spanish Beggar: In the future, a group of children are genetically modified so they no longer need sleep. They are called Sleepless. Their innate difference brings them achievement and wealth, but also discrimination and persecution: they are driven out of society by ordinary people.
Faced with hardship, should they fight back or try to mend the rift? Two fellow Sleepless, Leisha Camden and Jennifer Sharifi, have very different answers...
Beggars and Choosers: After the sudden emergence of the Sleepless, social change accelerates, and ordinary people no longer need to work, enjoying every kind of privilege and comfort.
Then one day, the robots that have taken over human jobs begin to break down, bringing food shortages and scarce supplies, and plunging society into chaos... By then, the Sleepless of years past have evolved into a more advanced group known as the Super-Sleepless. But differing attitudes toward those who sleep gradually drive a wedge between the two groups. A disaster is inevitable, but what roles will the Sleepless and Super-Sleepless play in it? Can humanity avert catastrophe and usher in a whole new utopian age?
The Beggar's Wish: In the twenty-second century, divisions caused by genetic modification continue to deepen. Jennifer, leader of the Sleepless, plots to alter the brains of ordinary people. Miranda, a Super-Sleepless regarded as humanity's savior, stops supplying humans with genetic modification injections. Deprived of their savior, people struggle amid disease and death, while also facing the threat of Jennifer unleashing a genetic virus...
Several young people bravely take on the responsibility of saving humanity and redeeming themselves, determined to lead humankind out of its nightmare. A human civilization on the brink of collapse finally glimpses the hope of being reborn.
Wow, the setting of this book is so interesting! Genetic modification has turned some people into "sleepless people" who face discrimination and persecution. The characters in the book are all different, some rise up to fight, and some work hard to mend the rift. This reminds me that in real life, many people are discriminated against because of their specialness. We should respect everyone's differences instead of hurting them because of their differences. Looking forward to the development of the story later!
