The Tale of Le Lin, Scion of a Noble House

When Wei Jie was young and inexperienced, he challenged Empress Jia Nanfeng for the sake of the crown prince. Jia Nanfeng and her scheming adviser Pan An punished him, shattering his pride. He endured the darkest days of his life, and it was only when his betrothed, Le Lin, arrived that she pulled him back from hell and into reality. From then on, Wei Jie took the name He Yan and traded his writing brush for a sword, only to be caught up in the War of the Eight Princes. His brother-in-law, Sima Ying, repeatedly made him take the fall, and he even witnessed Lu Ji’s tragic “Cranes Crying at Huating” and the massacre of an entire clan. With his heart turned to ash, Wei Jie faked his death in Youzhou and slipped away. But after the southward migration of the nobility to Jiankang, he offended Wang Dun and was poisoned to death, creating the historical mystery known as “the crowd’s gaze killed Wei Jie.” Fortunately, Wei Jie had discovered Wang Dun’s plot in advance. He faked his death and hid in the Peach Blossom Spring, then helped Wang Xuan, Wang Yu, Wang Dao, Xie Kun, and others support Sima Rui’s ascension to the throne. Sima Rui voiced his famous sentiment that the Wang and Sima families shared the realm. At last, Wei Jie fulfilled his original wish for the Jin dynasty to enjoy peace and prosperity.
