When driving into the city of Nancy, he accidentally falls off his horse and meets Madame Chastelet, a beautiful young woman who is watching the excitement. Madame Chastelet was young and widowed, and owned a million-dollar fortune. She was the target of many aristocratic young people in Nancy's upper class society. But Madame Chastelet was interested in Lucien, and the two began a sincere and passionate love affair. "The Red and the White" is one of Stendhal's most representative works.
