A water serpent becomes a jiao after five hundred years, and a jiao becomes a dragon after a thousand. After five hundred years, a dragon grows horns; after a thousand, it becomes a yinglong. The mysteries of yin and yang, of reversal and alignment, are boundless. The two solstices return to the first and ninth palaces. If one understands the principles of yin and yang, all under heaven can be held in the palm of one’s hand.
