Su Jibai is thirty, but has yet to make anything of himself. A low-level office worker, he earns just 6,000 a month, and now his boss has cut his pay. At home, his wife's nagging, his child's crying, and the pressures of life leave him struggling to breathe.
To drown his sorrows, he drinks the aged liquor his grandfather left him. Dizzy and dazed, he falls into a deep sleep. When he wakes, he has transmigrated into a drama and become Wu Dalang. After a series of twists and turns, he uncovers the strange, convoluted story of Pan Jinlian and Wu Dalang.
After returning to reality, Su Jibai feels as if he has discovered a whole new world. He eagerly begins transmigrating again and again. Pei Ruhai, Lu Bu, Fahai, Sun Wukong, Chen Shimei... countless classic characters appear one after another. What untold stories lie behind each of them?
