A History of Sino-American Relations (2001-2016)

China and the United States are the two great powers of today's world, and their relationship has drawn global attention. Since the American merchant ship Empress of China first sailed to China in 1784, the two countries have engaged with each other for more than 200 years. Over this long period, their relationship has weathered storms, risen and fallen dramatically, and undergone many twists and turns, while their exchanges have covered an exceptionally broad range of areas.

This book charts the basic course of the evolution of China-U.S. relations from 2001 to 2016. It focuses on many new developments and phenomena in the relationship since the beginning of the new century, including China's position and measures on the Taiwan issue and the evolution of related U.S. policies; cooperation and differences between China and the United States in addressing the North Korean nuclear issue; the institutionalization of bilateral relations; the development of exchanges and cooperation across various fields; the U.S. strategy of rebalancing toward the Asia-Pacific; China's proposal to build a new model of major-country relations; and the constructive management of differences between the two countries.
