Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China (2015 Edited Version)

In 1997, the Fifth Session of the Eighth National People's Congress comprehensively revised the Criminal Law. Since then, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has adopted a decision and seven criminal law amendments to modify and supplement the criminal law based on the needs of punishing crimes. Some National People's Congress deputies and relevant social parties have pointed out that in recent years, with the development of the economy and society, some new situations and problems have emerged, and the relevant provisions of the criminal law need to be revised. The central government's opinions on deepening the reform of the judicial system and working mechanisms also require further implementation of the criminal policy of combining leniency with severity and making necessary adjustments and modifications to the criminal law.
