The relationship between Chinese women's liberation, nation-state construction, and left-wing revolution has constituted one of the focus issues in Chinese literature and culture since modern times. This book takes the historical span of 1898-1949 and the creations of modern Chinese revolutionary female writers as the research object. It comprehensively sorts out the changing process of modern women's revolutionary discourse. It discusses the different representations and characteristics of "gender politics" in different social histories and political time and space from the perspective of both macro grasp and case analysis, and attempts to explore the modern experience and historical heritage value that contain unique "Chinese characteristics". Opening a new space for discussing left-wing practice from the "gender" dimension allows us to re-examine the simplified and reduced historical narrative as a whole, which means discovering the rationality and legitimacy of the rich and complex appearance and existence of the Chinese left-wing revolution that has been ignored.

The author Yang Jing's research is comprehensive and the analysis is spot on. I especially like the way the book summarizes the changes in female roles in different historical periods, but I hate some of the male characters in the book. Their oppression and discrimination against women is infuriating. Overall, this is a great book worth reading!
