[Reborn for revenge + palace and household intrigue + stealing another's wife + seemingly innocent but secretly calculating legitimate daughter + mad power-hungry official + male lead sexually inexperienced; female lead pure in this life]
Previous life: Jiang Guo'er was born in a brothel. Beautiful and talented, she repaid the man who saved her life by buying her freedom and marrying Yue Minghuai, a gifted scholar from Quzhou.
They were loving for two years and had a son. But after her husband passed the imperial examinations, he abandoned her to become a prestigious son-in-law.
Her mother-in-law took the child and threw her out.
Her sister-in-law, jealous of her beauty, talent, and happy marriage, framed her as having a loathsome disease, leaving her disfigured.
Unable to bear being separated from her child, Jiang Guo'er knelt outside the Yue residence, begging desperately, only to be humiliated by the mother and daughter.
In an instant, she became a wanton woman condemned by everyone and scorned by the world.
In the end, she drank a bottle of poison and brought her life to a close.
Only as she lay dying did she learn the truth: her marriage had been a lie from the very beginning. But she found out too late... As the poison took effect, Jiang Guo'er died on that bitterly cold winter day, condemned by all.
That same day, in Dingjing, the foolish young lady of the Chancellor's household accidentally fell from an artificial hill and died.
Jiang Guo'er's wronged soul entered the young lady's body, giving her a new life.
Who could have known that behind the gates of a noble household, in its sprawling inner quarters, schemes would twist and turn and sinister figures lurk at every corner? She must settle old debts, avenge herself in this life, and even placate a mad power-hungry official...
The real young lady incurred a romantic debt before she died, and now the mad power-hungry official pursues her day and night, insisting on making her his wife.
To stay alive and take revenge, she plays sweet and obedient, spinning pretty words and deceiving him time and again.
Mu Han has no idea that the woman he has secretly loved for so long has already been replaced by someone else.
He goes mad for her, becomes obsessed with her. If she wants to marry another man, he'll take her by force. “A little rabbit can never escape a hungry wolf's grasp”
