Xuanzang, the man destined to journey west for Buddhist scriptures, was discussing Buddhism at White Horse Temple. A little monk named Wuhou Sansang, who had been watching the commotion, was taken in as Xuanzang's disciple and given the Buddhist name Sanzang. The young monk was actually an orphan of a meritorious Tang dynasty family, and his name was recorded in the Buddhist register as Tang Sanzang. With his senses unpurified and little understanding of Buddhism, the young monk took Xuanzang's place as the heaven-appointed pilgrim, beginning a very different Journey to the West in the Tang dynasty.
Sun Wukong, burdened with the fate of the demon tribe.
Zhu Bajie, unable to let go of love.
Sha Wujing, seeking the path to invincibility.
Can Tang Sanzang make them his right-hand men on the journey west to fetch the scriptures? As a high-ranking monk of the Tang dynasty, shouldering the mission of his empire, Tang Sanzang knows there is only one road west: if a demon stands in his way, exterminate it; if an immortal stands in his way, kill them; if a Buddha stands in his way, destroy them.
