Feng Chi has lost all his memories. 001 tells him that an immortal lord in the Heavenly Court broke a taboo and was sentenced to heavenly punishment, where he must undergo nine trials. As luck would have it, Feng Chi was personally chosen by the immortal lord to be his trusted ally before the trials began. As for why Feng Chi lost his memories, it was most likely the work of the Heavenly Emperor.
Feng Chi is unhappy, so 001 placates him: “Help the immortal lord return to the Heavenly Court, and you’ll get your memories back.”
What he doesn’t know is that as he completes the trials in each world, his memories gradually return. Feng Chi can clearly tell something is wrong. It’s almost as if… he’s the one undergoing the trials.
A flower, a tree, a bodhi: you feared nothing and came searching for me. The barriers before us will eventually shatter.

When Yan Hexi learns that Feng Chi is going through the trials for his sake, he panics. He chases after Feng Chi, begging him not to do it.
Feng Chi smiles. “Could you please stop bullying me?”
Every immortal in the Heavenly Court knows that Immortal Feng likes Immortal Yan and would do anything for him. But Immortal Yan just doesn’t get it, not until Immortal Feng goes off to face the trials.
Yan Hexi says stiffly, “I don’t want you to leave.”
Feng Chi says, “You can’t just say that and expect me to listen. I’m not doing what you say.”
Then he turns and disappears.
Sometimes you only learn to treasure something after you’ve lost it, and only understand regret after you’ve experienced it.
Yan Hexi wastes no time threatening the Chief God who oversees the trials in the worlds.
Feng Chi, you are a blessing I have prayed for ten thousand times without ever receiving.
