The False Phoenix King

No System, no golden finger, an alternate history with realistic warfare, featuring a down-to-earth male lead who rises against the odds and a female lead who disguises herself as a man.

[Court intrigue + succession struggle + underdog comeback + warfare + double life + impersonation]

Twenty-year-old Xia Yun, like many people his age, is full of ambition but has no chance to put it to use.

On his way to enlist, he accidentally stumbles upon an assassin’s operation. Caught up in the affair, Xia Yun gains an incredible opportunity.

Driven by his thirst for power, he takes a dangerous gamble: he assumes the identity of a dead man and heads to the capital to take up an official post.

In the capital, Duke An has a son, Li Entai, and a daughter, Li Enyue.

After their father died of illness half a year ago, Li Entai inherited the title at a lower rank. He made no effort to improve himself, spending his nights carousing until he met a sudden death aboard a pleasure boat.

To preserve the Li family’s marquis title and their own wealth, the household retainers put forward Li Enyue to impersonate him.

The twins look alike, and her brother usually dressed in a rather effeminate manner, so the deception never came to light.

Xia Yun, who has assumed another man’s identity, and Li Enyue, who disguises herself as a man.

From power struggles in the capital to the flames of war on the frontier.

From disputes over national policy to bitter feuds in the struggle for the throne.

The two support each other and advance together in officialdom, gradually falling in love.

Yet because they take opposing sides in the succession struggle, they find themselves both loving and fighting each other.
