I Left the Palace to Marry Again, and the Emperor Regretted It

I was a lowly palace maid.

The day the Grand Tutor’s faction fell, the emperor’s first act was to make Consort Shu, who never fought for favor and kept a low profile, his empress.

After shielding Consort Shu from countless open and hidden attacks, I finally outlived my usefulness, and the emperor drove me from the palace.

The day I left, I took off the strand of agate beads he had given me in the height of our passion and put back on the plain red cord I had brought with me when I first entered the palace.

Later, in the eighth year of my marriage to the young general, we were deeply in love.

The emperor suddenly summoned us back to the capital.

With red-rimmed eyes, he held out the agate beads symbolizing the empress’s status and begged me to put them on again.
