In the winter of the seventh year of Xianfeng (1857), Chen Shuisheng, a soldier of the Qing Navy, fell into the sea during the artillery fire of the "Yalor Incident" and swam to the Stanley Beach in Hong Kong. Carrying an ancestral waist knife and half a burned certificate of good citizenship, he started out as a settler in a shanty town, traveled through the gray area of opium, land, and shipping, and finally became a wealthy Chinese businessman on the Peak of Victoria Peak. This epic spans half a century from 1857 to 1911, using personal destiny as a needle to stitch together the fragments of Hong Kong's early history.
