In the summer of 1938, eight young men from Liujiatuan in Taishan County, including Liu Yuhao, whose neighbors likened them to “the twisting, coiling dragon willows,” could no longer endure the Japanese invaders and their traitorous collaborators oppressing and abusing them. They resolved to fight back. Liu Yuhao led his companions in punishing collaborators, ambushing bandits, taking Zhengjiazhai by stratagem, and occupying Cishan, where they raised the banner of the Beihai Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force. With the support of the Communist Eighth Route Army, the force fought the Japanese, eliminated collaborators, and repelled campaigns to encircle and suppress them, using feigned surrender to annihilate the enemy. On May 1, 1943, the Beihai Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force was officially reorganized as the Beihai Independent Battalion of the Eighth Route Army, with Liu Yuhao as its commander. Based at Cishan, the battalion controlled the highway from Qiyang and Danya to Gangcheng, ambushing Japanese supply convoys and seizing their weapons, equipment, food, and other supplies. Liu Yuhao led the battalion and the Eighth Route Army county units from Taishan, Qiyang, and Danya in taking Dujiazhen and the stronghold at the southwestern pass of Cishan by stratagem, and capturing Taishan County seat. After the War of Resistance against Japan ended in victory, Chiang Kai-shek launched a civil war. The Beihai Independent Battalion expanded into two regiments, and Liu Yuhao became commander of the newly formed Independent Regiment. He led his troops bravely in battle and was seriously wounded several times. In December 1950, Liu Yuhao voluntarily applied to leave the military and return to his hometown. He later served as deputy county head, county head, and county Party secretary of Taishan. He built reservoirs, reclaimed saline, alkaline, waterlogged, and low-lying land, vigorously developed industry and commerce, and renovated polluting enterprises, contributing greatly to his hometown’s development. The coiling dragon willow twists in charming curves, and the people of Coiling Dragon Willow, too, can grow into outstanding talents.
This film is dedicated to the heroes who fought bravely and worked tirelessly for the founding and development of New China!
