[Chasing His Wife to the Crematorium] [Rivalry for Her Love]
When Li Ban was with Jiang Zhiyan, nobody took their relationship seriously. There was an unspoken consensus among Beicheng's elite: Jiang Zhiyan and Sang Hua were made for each other. Sure enough, as soon as Sang Hua returned to the country, the two of them broke up, and things ended badly.
-
Two years later, Jiang Zhiyan suddenly announced that he was getting married.
His friends exchanged bewildered looks. The woman he had been keeping hidden like a treasure came from a poor and lowly background, and the child she was carrying had an even more dubious origin.
Worried he was being deceived, someone kindly advised him to sign a prenuptial agreement.
Jiang Zhiyan nodded. "You're right, we should sign one. How do you think we should split the assets? Eighty-twenty?"
His friends looked even more conflicted and tried to dissuade him. "Isn't that too much?" What had that woman done to deserve twenty percent of Jiang Zhiyan's fortune?
Jiang Zhiyan thought it over. "You think keeping twenty percent for myself is too much too? I'm not trying to squirrel away money. I just want to have a little on hand so I can buy her and the child presents from time to time."
He thought of how, just moments ago when they parted, she had nestled against him dependently. His heart turned to mush. "She likes surprises."

Later on.
Li Ban lay pale and frail in a hospital bed, enduring the pain and refusing to look at him. Weakly, she forced out two words: "Go away."
He pretended not to hear and gently coaxed her. Seeing her delicate, pain-wracked state, he was so heartbroken he didn't know what to do.
"Aren't you afraid... I'll mistake you for him?"
Jiang Zhiyan froze. His heart felt as if it had been crushed. After a long silence, he said hoarsely, "As long as you and the child are safe."
