But Yang Yueshu quietly gazed at the distant night sky. There wasn’t a single star, and the moon was hidden behind dark clouds. The stillness stretched like an endless sea, with no shore in sight.
Suddenly, a flash of light reflected in Yang Yueshu’s dark, deep eyes, making them twitch slightly.
“Yueshu, look! What’s that?” Zhou Ye asked, holding Yang Yueshu in his arms and pointing at the brilliant lights blooming again and again in the distance.
Children ran out into the streets. The crack of firecrackers shook the sky, and joyful sounds of family reunions rang from every home.
Yang Yueshu tugged at the corners of her mouth and gave a small smile, then said,
“Fireworks. They’re so beautiful.”
