The General

The young, handsome new emperor proposed to me before all the court, his eyes brimming with affection.

"Zhaozhao, you are the only one who will ever be my empress."

Everyone knew how much he favored me.

Yet he was also the one who had spent years biding his time, wielding an iron fist and even conspiring with a foreign enemy to crush the Yue family army at the border, leaving mountains of corpses and rivers of blood, all because he feared our achievements might eclipse his own.

I will never again be his Zhaozhao. I am only the last surviving member of the Yue family, the young general Yue Zhao, who fought her way through hatred to carve out a path to survival.
