Song Yitian, the emperor’s brother-in-law of Dongyu, is so charming and amorous that women throughout the kingdom adore him. They call him the nation’s ideal husband. A mishap sparks a scandalous rumor linking him to Shangguan Xiang, Dongyu’s gifted young woman, and the gossip spreads like wildfire. To get rid of Song Yitian, a walking magnet for disastrous romances, the emperor seals the deal with a marriage decree, making these two mismatched rivals family.
After the wedding, Song Yitian abandons his wife and home to roam the martial world and pursue his heroic mission of saving the nation and its people. Shangguan Xiang, meanwhile, is determined to meet the Song family’s quota and produce an heir. She throws caution to the wind and follows her husband from the imperial capital all the way to Yizhou.
Along the way, Shangguan Xiang meets Song Yitian’s master, Zhang Jue, the head of a renowned sword sect; Xia You, a wandering hero with multiple jobs and identities; Feng Hanxiu, the beautiful leader of the Xuanjing Sect; and Yu Yingze, the female boss of an alliance of bandits.
The martial world seems peaceful on the surface, but danger lurks beneath. A group of people with different motives team up to uncover the truth: one handles appearances, one acts aloof, one raises the group’s overall quality, one provides comic relief, one fights on the front lines, and one dishes out the snark.
Each of the six has their own troubles, too. Shangguan Xiang discovers she has fallen for her lousy husband. He seems to have fallen for the beautiful sect leader. And the sect leader seems to be in love with the wandering hero…
An uncle might put up with it, but an aunt certainly won’t. This is all too much, what a mess! Yet as everything draws to a close, Shangguan Xiang uncovers the truth hidden in her memories with her own hands, only to discover that the six seemingly unrelated people are all bound together by a shared secret…
If it’s fate, then why all the face-slapping every day? If it isn’t fate, then why have they met again in this life? And it’s not just him: there’s him, him, her, and her, too!
This book is so interesting! I particularly like Shangguan Xiang, she is so cute! I feel like she is like a friend of mine who always has a lot of fun things going on. And the other characters in the book are also very interesting, and the stories of their adventures together made me enjoy reading them. It's like I'm wandering around in the world with them! I think this book is very suitable to read with friends. Everyone will definitely have many common topics to talk about.
