My Maid Sister Is as Unfazed as a Chrysanthemum

Though my elder sister was a servant, she cared most of all about her dignity.

When Young Master Zhou wanted to take her as his personal concubine, she refused outright:

"Though I sold myself into servitude, I still have my dignity. I will never be a personal concubine."

Humiliated and furious at her rejection, Young Master Zhou was about to lay hands on her.

My sister begged me, "Save me. Once I get settled, I'll buy your freedom!"

Out of sisterly affection, I protected her and helped her preserve her dignity, and she became the young master's favorite concubine.

But I was married off to a violent stable hand.

After suffering through untold hardship, I dragged my broken leg along and knelt before my sister, begging her to keep her promise.

She looked at me with disgust. "You look so undignified."

I asked her in despair, "I ended up like this because of you! You could have saved me with the slightest effort. Why wouldn't you help me?"

But tears filled her eyes. "If you put it that way, there's nothing I can say to defend myself."

Young Master Zhou happened to witness the scene. He had me dragged away and beaten to death with clubs.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day my sister was dragged away by Young Master Zhou.

This time, I chose to look on coldly.
