A demolition project in the south of the city sets off more than a decade of tangled grievances, sparking a struggle between the government and the criminal underworld.
Chen Mei, an accountant at the Chen Group, is framed and imprisoned. Her daughter, Chen Wan Feng, becomes a casualty of the conflict, and her identity is exposed during her school years: she is Mr. Chen’s illegitimate daughter.
But this identity brings her no good fortune. Her mother dies of illness in prison, and her biological father is jailed over the massive demolition project in the south of the city and his past entanglements.
Her first love, whom she met at school, also drifts away after a string of events, and a rival in love appears.
The south of the city is her prison, trapping both her body and her heart. The people there hate Chen Mei and her because the two of them stopped them from becoming members of the demolition generation, or the generation that profited from demolitions.
One conflict after another plays out in a tale of joy and sorrow. Chen Wan Feng is like the evening breeze trapped in the south of the city, left to wander the blue-gray flagstone lanes. Where can she go from here?
