"Furong Town" is a full-length novel written by Gu Hua. The author has included and condensed the people and things he is familiar with in the southern countryside into this book, describing the social customs of southern China's rural areas from 1963 to 1979. It tells the story of Hu Yuyin, a female vendor in Furong Town who became rich through hard work. She and Qin Shutian developed a true love in the process of sharing adversity, and together they ushered in the moment of setting things right. The novel combines historical events with pictures of customs and sentiments, uses the fate of the characters to depict the changes in rural life, and depicts the color and mood of life in southern rural areas. The novel was published in "Contemporary" in 1981 and won the first Mao Dun Literature Award the following year.

I don't write articles like this anymore. I watched the movie to read the original work. The film adaptation basically followed the original work. Liu Xiaoqing and Jiang Wen acted very vividly, but there was no happy Ge Tang part, which was a bit regretful.
In recent times, my focus has been mainly on world famous works, especially Russian literary works. I should have finished reading this book more than 20 years ago. It is a pity that I did not want to read it now. This book is well written and deserves to be the winner of the Contradiction Literature Award! The gold content is extremely high!

This book is very characteristic of the times. The author Gu Hua shows the life style of the southern countryside through delicate descriptions. The characters in the story are vivid and remind me of Sun Shaoping in "The Ordinary World". They all work hard to live in a difficult environment. This book is like a picture of the southern countryside and is worth reading.
Novels from forty or fifty years ago should be read now as more objective reflections of a time that has gone far away. These years are all detours we have taken!
Finally, there is such a book so that Chinese people will not completely forget the suffering they have suffered.
You will never tire of it, the language is vivid and the characters are lifelike.
The rural atmosphere is rich, recreating the simple people's lives in those days and showing the complexity of human nature.
