Perhaps humans are not the only masters of this world.
For as long as anyone can remember, there have been creatures known as “spirits.”
They feed on the cores inside their own kind, called ghost stones.
Spirits with self-awareness can form contracts with humans, who are known as spirit tamers. Ordinary people usually cannot see spirits; only spirit tamers can.
Nine years ago, an explosion rocked the city. The only survivor from a family of three was their thirteen-year-old child, and the incident was eventually ruled an accident. Only later did people learn that it had been a terrorist attack against society, carried out by spirit tamers.
That child has grown up now.
That child is me.
I can see, touch, and even hurt spirits.
So I joined the organization made up of spirits and spirit tamers.
My name is Chen Shisan. I’m Executor No. 13 at the Executive Bureau, and a spirit tamer without a spirit.
(A little aside)
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who clicked on my novel. Back in elementary school, I could rack my brains, force and cobble together words all morning, and still not manage to produce even a 200-character stream-of-consciousness essay. My teacher would send me to stand in the hallway and write for the whole afternoon, and I’d barely scrape together 500 characters. I was just good enough to pass Chinese class. I never imagined I’d eventually come to Fanqie and try writing a novel. This is my first attempt, and my writing skills are limited, so please be kind.
