The Evolution of China’s Censorate and Cabinet Systems

One of the volumes in the second series of “Old Books, New Insights.” This collection brings together two research studies completed by Gao Yihan, offering a full account of the origins and development of the Censorate and the Grand Secretariat in Chinese history. These two essays follow much the same format, examining China’s political institutions from both historical and legal perspectives and presenting them in a systematic account. Although the source material is not entirely complete, the main outlines of their evolution and development are described in full.
