Synopsis

This book is suitable for primary and secondary school students to read. "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" is Victor Hugo's masterpiece. It tells a story that happened in France in the 15th century: the ugly and deaf bell ringer, Quasimodo, was an orphan abandoned by his parents. He was adopted by Father Claude of Notre Dame de Paris when he was a child. Claude is a sanctimonious guy with a dirty heart. He fell in love with the beautiful gypsy girl Meralda and ordered Quasimodo to kidnap Esmeralda by force. On the way, Esmeralda was rescued by the cavalry captain Captain Phoebus. From then on, Esmeralda fell in love with Phoebus, a hero who saved the beauty. Unexpectedly, Phoebus was a romantic man. He broke Esmeralda's heart and made Claude resentful. Father Claude killed Febis and framed the blame on Esmeralda, who was sentenced to death. Cassimodo rushes into the execution ground to rescue Esmeralda and hides her in Notre Dame. The beggars rushed into the church to save Esmeralda, and mistakenly fought Quasimodo. Esmeralda was killed by the army led by Claude that broke into Notre Dame. Finally, Quasimodo angrily threw Claude from the top floor of the church to the ground, and died in love with Esmeralda's body.
