Prison Stories: A Collection by the Original Author of the Film The Shadow's Edge

Through thousands of days and nights in prison, Xia Long, himself an inmate, wrote nearly a hundred thousand words about his time behind bars. His stories expose hidden corners of prison life that few ever see. A juvenile delinquent falls in love before going astray. A former drug lord who once ruled the underworld is brought down by the other inmates in the detention center. A sweet voice from the women’s cell across the wall conceals a tragic secret. One hundred and forty-four love letters are sent to the prison, but no one can find their true recipient…

Behind the label of “criminal,” Xia Long sketches the warmth these people possess as ordinary human beings. His stories also retrace the roots of crime, probing the evil lying dormant around us all, ready to erupt at any moment. They face the struggles, conflicts, and descent within human nature, along with the hope and resolve to turn toward the light.
