Following "The Stage", "Protagonist" and "Comedy", award-winning writer Chen Yan's new work narrates the daily trivialities, helplessness and perseverance of grassroots civil servants, and explores the way for all living beings in the Qinling Mountains to coexist appropriately between the starry sky and the earth.
Reader comments
Characters are revealed in works, and there are all kinds of people in Chen Yan's books. He seems to have seen all aspects of life and tasted the warmth and ups and downs of the world. There are villains in his works who bully others, but there are also gentlemen who speak out and act bravely for what is right. The little characters in his works are bent down by life, but they always keep their backbone straight. In his works, there is thinking, criticism, persistence, bottom line, and hope.
This book should be made into a TV series! It's more worth filming than "The Protagonist", "The Stage" and "Xijing Story"! There is so much dramatic conflict. From the beginning to the end, the readers are always concerned about Wen Rufeng who is petitioning and An Beidou who is persuading, from the cat catching the mouse to the final snake and mouse nest (the wording seems inappropriate), it is so interesting! Compared with the previous ones, including "Comedy", this Half a Tree is also the most enjoyable one at the end. If the protagonist can give 9.5 Points, this Half a Tree deserves 9.9 Points!
Because "Protagonist" followed the author's other books, they are all very good, especially this one, which expresses the true feelings. During this long process, I was suppressed and resentful, almost suffocating. Fortunately, the ending provides some comfort.
It writes about the coldness of the world and the warmth and coldness of human life vividly and deeply, which makes people think deeply. I like Chen Yan's book very much. I have read the protagonist and the stage. Looking at those humble creatures, it is really thought-provoking.

This book by Teacher Chen Yan truly depicts life at the grassroots level! Just like what is written in the book, all the old trees in the village were bought by city people. This scene is really helpless. I like the delicate description of rural changes in the book, which feels very real. Moreover, I especially liked the part about Grandma Liu, when her great-grandson sold her silver hairpin, and her words "Why don't you cut off my head" were really funny. This book made me think more about life. I recommend it!
The content is magnificent, the plot has ups and downs, and is shocking. Although the story about half a tree is very small, the series of events it triggered are very grand. I was shocked after reading it! ! ! ! [Like]
I like An Beidou in it, but I don't know how to describe it. I just think it's the kind of character I long for.
The subject matter of the novel is very down-to-earth and realistic. The plot is rich in content and luxuriant. Covers a wide range of knowledge. The characters have distinct personalities and rich language, but there are too many curse words.
I just finished reading "The Protagonist" and couldn't wait to open "The Starry Sky and the Half-Tree". "Wow-woo-!" What a great book! The gripping text, the vivid and ups and downs of the characters, the broad and far-reaching perspective, the intense and contagious thoughts... The meaning is still not enough, it is really not enough! When I first read it, "The Moon and Sixpence" came to mind. After reading it, I thought it was the starry sky that "The Moon and Sixpence" looked up to... And we, too, need to look up to the starry sky all the time. Well, keep your head up as you walk.
A story that exposes the black and white vagaries of the rural grassroots
It is more realistic and profound than the descriptions in many officialdom novels.
Rare! Rare! Rare!
Engaging and down to earth
There is logic, writing, and stories.
Evil does not suppress good. The truth always exists.
I watched "The Protagonist" and "Xijing Story" and they were both very good
This is an in-depth novel that I have read in recent years. It would be better if there were deeper descriptions of individual characters.
This book is really worth reading to understand the joys and sorrows of small people in rural areas.
Hearty and hearty, the meaning is still unfinished. The characters are vividly drawn and the story has ups and downs.
Very nice, worth buying
Good people don't live long, but disaster lasts for 1,000 years
The starry sky belongs to everyone equally, but it is true that people in many places now do not have the conditions to see the starry sky, let alone whether they are willing or not.
But Master Chen's book is so well written
After reading it, I fell into deep thinking
Yes, the story inside is thought-provoking
A serious book, full of life, depth, thoughts, and a good book.
Alas, this book is so well written, some of the situations it writes are very close to reality, and there are also some sublimated things that are very good. This is the fastest I have read among the novels this year.
The major and minor events described in the book, including psychological reactions, are very detailed, which shows that the author has strong literary writing ability.
It would be a great pity to recommend such a good book. The teacher's books are all beautiful and really good. I benefit from it and highly recommend it [laughs]
I wrote it wrong before. It would be a pity if I don't recommend it. Teacher Chen is a great writer and I have read several of his books.
The characters are vivid and vivid. The description of the meteor shower makes me want to see a meteor shower in the starry sky in the vast universe.
The interesting author's native dialect and foreign language are easy to pick up, and his literary talent is outstanding.
