An Intern Immortal's Path to a Permanent Post at Yonghe Temple

“These stupid rules of Heaven are ridiculous. Why do we have to grant one person's wish every day? Even programmers work 996, but I'm an emperor and somehow I'm stuck on a 007 shift. Between the two of us, we've been helping people make their wishes come true in the mortal world for centuries. Fewer and fewer people have been coming to Yonghe Temple to make wishes lately. We've been at it all year, and we haven't even finished half.”

Fourth Master drained his can of beer in one gulp, stood up, kicked Qianlong, then lay back down.

“Hongli, get your ass up! You're an emperor, so where's your dignity? Why are there so few visitors lately? If nobody makes wishes, how are we supposed to meet our KPI and ascend to immortality? Damn it, I saved up several million taels of silver during my lifetime. If you hadn't squandered it all on your seven tours of Jiangnan, how would our descendants have ended up so poor? You used the people's hard-earned wealth without a care!”
