Far Valley

With its bizarre and lively tales of country life, this work recounts the lives of four generations in Yuangu, from poverty and ignorance to absurdity, deceit, and strange, uncanny events. In the end, fate comes full circle, and all paths lead to the same destination: somewhere, the will of Heaven has already made itself known. Yuangu’s ancestors wandered into a mountain cave and uncovered a stone tablet. On it, an ancient young nobleman mourned his sorrow beside a stone he cherished, his extraordinary life told in a few brief lines. A thousand years later, the legendary sorrow carved into the tablet plays out once more in the lives of Yuangu’s descendants. Tucked away in a remote corner, Yuangu remains silent and still. How could it contain the vastness of the world and the long sweep of time...?
