The story begins when Zhao Tong, a fourth-grade student, gets a new classmate: Zhou Yi, a top student. She wonders if being friends with a top student might make her smarter too.
The story ends two years after Zhao Tong and Zhou Yi graduate from college. In a crowded street, they pass each other by. Zhou Yi is holding hands with his girlfriend. Watching him walk away, she says, “Goodbye, Zhou Yi. Goodbye, my youth. It's time for me to begin the next part of my journey, too.”
They had secret crushes on each other but never got together. Maybe in another parallel world, we saw that sea of moonlight together.
