Tears of the Flower Maiden

Huayan was a princess of the late Qing dynasty. Before the empire fell, her father sent her overseas to study. At fifteen, when she came of age, she hoped to return home and reunite with her family. Instead, she received only her father’s inheritance, the news that the Qing dynasty had fallen, and a red bridal sedan chair that carried her to the home of the fiancé her father had chosen for her, a man she had never met. She thought that in these turbulent times, it might be best to live out her days in quiet obscurity. But a chance encounter drew her into the depths of this glittering, treacherous world… Perhaps love had come without her knowing, only to grow deeper with every passing day; or perhaps it had no end in sight, and would consume her completely.
