Wang Yu was a cripple who had married into the Liu family five years earlier. Five years ago, by a twist of fate, he saved Liu Xiaoyue when she tried to drown herself in a river. But he was bitten by a water snake in the river and left permanently disabled.
In gratitude, Liu Xiaoyue gave herself to him. Defying her family’s attempts to stop her, she stubbornly married Wang Yu.
And so Wang Yu became the Liu family’s live-in son-in-law.
