Guilin's Past: 1937 to 1945

Guilin, 1937–1945

The power struggles between Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist central government and the Guangxi clique deeply affected the city.

The Communists and Japanese agents also waged a constant shadow war against the Guangxi clique’s senior figures.

In this complex world, ordinary people from every walk of life struggled through joys and sorrows, separations and reunions, scheming and deceit.

Human nature never changes, no matter the era: peaceful times breed villains, while troubled times produce heroes!

A tale that uses the past to reflect on the present, inspired by the years I’ve spent living in Guilin.
