Synopsis

My name is Changzhou. I'm a Foxian from the Xianzhou Luofu, only seventy-eight years old and barely an adult. I left the Luofu not long ago to join the Interastral Peace Corporation, where I'm currently enjoying a wonderful time as a wage slave.

One day, while carrying out a nonsensical task assigned by my boss, I happened to meet a beautiful child and immediately decided to rescue him from his misery.

So I waved a hand and bought him for 600 Chits of Red Copper. Later, he told me his name was Kakavasha.

And because of an accident, we ended up living together.

He really is an infuriating child. He refuses my kindness and constantly second-guesses my intentions, imagining I'm some irredeemable villain. I've never suffered such an injustice in my life.

He really is a good child. Though he's afraid I'll do something to him, he breaks my things, puts poison in my food, and tests my limits every day, he has never actually hurt me.

He really is a gentle child. When I cut myself on broken glass, he carefully bandages my wound, looking at me with guilt and embarrassment. When I get so absorbed in work that I stay up too long, he puts sleeping pills in my food. And with his little bets and his good luck, he keeps asking me for love and attention, over and over again.

One day, he told me that he could have been bought for only 60 Chits of Red Copper, and asked if I regretted not haggling.

And me?

I told him, “Kakavasha, all I could think at the time was, thank goodness that guy didn't understand your worth, so I could take you away for just 600 Chits of Red Copper.”
