The Fantasy World Beyond the Mushrooms

Lately, there’s been a buzzing in my ears. Of course, it isn’t possession or anything like that.

This is simply a natural bodily phenomenon.

When you quiet down to sleep, you may hear this sound in your ears. As long as you don’t pay attention to it, you’ll unconsciously tune it out and stop hearing it.

But if you do pay attention, it will keep tormenting you. The more you focus on it, the louder and more unbearable it gets, and there’s no cure for it.

A similar example is trying to stay consciously aware of what it feels like to be asleep. Once that thought takes hold, you’ll probably end up with insomnia. But forget about it, and you’ll naturally recover.
