I'm the caretaker of a martyrs' cemetery. Every day, I sweep up trash and wipe down gravestones. It's easy work, but boring.
Then, on National Day, I saw the world behind the gravestones and met the people buried beneath them.
He asked, “Young lady, did we... die in battle? Why are all these tombstones engraved with our names?”
I replied, “Grandpa, you gave your lives honorably for our country.”
He asked, “Young lady, does our country give out steamed buns? My daughter had nothing to eat when I left.”
I quickly nodded. “It does, it does.”
He asked, “Young lady, after we were gone, where did the Japanese invaders go?”
I answered proudly, “We won, and the People's Republic of China was founded!”
