Centered on policewoman Song Yu and her task force as they crack a gang fraud case, with a secondary storyline about her lover, Han Shu, becoming entangled in a scheme to launder underground money, the two threads intertwine to create a compelling portrait of a policewoman who pursues the truth and fights evil.
Three years ago, Song Yu injured her leg during an operation to arrest fraudster Li Dongnan. For years, she blamed herself for the operation’s failure. No longer suited to frontline duty, she was transferred to the archives department as its chief, where she was about to work alongside several supposedly useless clerks who had settled in for a leisurely retirement. Han Shu, her lover of ten years, needed a favor from his university professor, Cheng Fangzhuo, and asked Song Yu for help. But Song Yu, who had always stood by her principles, flatly refused. Their relationship entered a cold war.
While investigating a case in which Huang Laowu was swindled, Song Yu repeatedly gave her apprentice Cui Hao private guidance, drawing the ire of new team leader Shen Jiani. Song Yu brought in Wang Jianshe, an “expert” whose talents had lain buried in the archives department for over a decade. His analysis identified the “Luo Haiping death case” as their breakthrough. They also realized that it resembled the methods used by Li Dongnan’s gang three years earlier, making Song Yu take the case extremely seriously. With trace evidence expert Sun Shuyi, who had likewise been “hidden away” in the archives department, joining the team, the investigation made initial progress. To speed things up, Shen Jiani and Song Yu publicly challenged each other and proposed splitting up to investigate. The other members of the archives department were fired up as well: forensic pathologist Guan Li and the team’s powerhouse, Teng Chong, joined the task force. Starting with Huang Laowu’s lover, A Ting, Song Yu followed the clues and gradually uncovered Li Dongnan’s fraud ring. The closer she got to the truth, the more she realized that the mastermind was right in front of her.
I can understand that she blames herself for what happened three years ago. This reminds me of a mistake I made, and I also feel guilty and sad. But Song Yu didn't give up. She kept working hard to pursue the truth, which I admire very much. I think we should all be like her, facing difficulties bravely and sticking to our beliefs.
Awesome! I'm particularly looking forward to the author's new work!
I enjoyed it, I hope there will be more
Tribute to frontline heroes!
I like this perspective and subject matter.
Very good! Like, like, like!
Highly recommended! Please don't miss this book. And pay tribute to all the warriors fighting for justice!
It brought tears to my eyes
It's short, concise and full of details. I've seen too many male protagonists in mid-life crisis. This time I'm watching a female protagonist.
I always thought the author was a woman 😄
