Wei Zheng was an orphan from childhood. As an adult, he was conned by a shady employment agency into going abroad and becoming a mercenary. He braved a year of gunfire and explosions, finally making it to the end of his contract.
His dream was to return home with the money he had earned and open a detective agency, catching cheating husbands and snapping photos of mistresses. Life couldn’t get much better.
But after more than half a year in business, the only jobs he got were finding cats and dogs. With his wallet running empty, he had no choice but to return to his old line of work: taking money to kill people.
By day, he was Detective Conan, finding cats and dogs with ease. By night, he took paid jobs and delivered justice. Though he had become a killer, Wei Zheng had strict principles: he only accepted jobs targeting the truly evil, and never killed innocents.
As time went by, he inevitably made enemies. In the end, while attempting to assassinate a high-ranking official from a certain East Asian country, he was framed and killed after taking several bullets.
When he woke again, he found himself in a place called Vermilion Bird Academy. Thus began his endless struggle to survive. To earn the right to live, he had no choice but to fight for survival in one mission world after another.
