[Pure historical romance: court intrigue + history + nation and people] She should have married a nobleman in the capital and lived a life of comfort and security. Instead, an imperial edict ordered her to wed the aged chieftain of a foreign tribe. The envoy sent to escort her was a brute who watched and followed her at every turn, afraid she might escape. On her wedding day, the brute not only took her husband’s place in the wedding ceremony, but even shared her wedding night… Later, he seized her husband’s throne and claimed her entirely.
Not long after their marriage, her maternal relatives forged an imperial edict and usurped power, making her the sole survivor of the Zhou dynasty after she was married off to a foreign land.
The relative who killed her family and seized her homeland was the father of her close friend in Chang’an. That friend colluded with his father, killing her father, brothers, and kin, and even harboring designs on her.
Enraged, her brute of a husband used vengeance for her lost family and homeland as his pretext to lead his cavalry in repeated attacks on the new dynasty.
He once swore solemnly, “I will be the blade that avenges you, the shield that keeps you safe, and I will stand by your side until death.”
She shed her former meekness, learned strategy and martial arts, and stood shoulder to shoulder with her brute of a husband.
But she always believed that only by holding power in her own hands could she control the fruits of victory and truly avenge her homeland and family. So she played along to keep her husband’s fighting spirit high while secretly building her own forces.
Her brute of a husband turned a blind eye to everything she did, even secretly helping her. As long as she was happy, that was all he wanted.
But war is always cruel. There are victories and defeats, the nation’s strength is drained, and the people suffer.
When the enemy she had struggled against for years gradually became known to the people as a wise ruler, she finally came to her senses.
[An ambitious, rugged male lead VS a loyal, patriotic heroine who grows into her role]
[Lots of sweet everyday moments together, with occasional angst in the political intrigue, and a happy ending]
I am writing a book again after four years. It is pure ancient language, no imagination, and has historical prototypes. It is not a popular subject nowadays. I think the writing style is not too bad, but it may not be suitable for the current style of online writing. I like it.
