The short story "Kirin" was favored by Karika Nagai, the originator of Japanese aestheticism, for its novel conception and fluent writing style. Nagai published a monograph praising him for opening up a field that no one had ever touched in the Japanese literary world, and spoke highly of it. Tanizaki officially entered the Japanese literary world.
