After the Breakup, One Song About Choosing You Took the Internet by Storm

Bai Xiu was once a prodigy, making his debut at eighteen.

As a producer, he swept through the music scene. His work was adored, and his romance was the envy of all.

But then his company plagiarized his work, and his girlfriend, Su Yumo, chose a bright future over love. In a single night, he lost everything.

When Ye Qiu lip-synced to his song under the spotlight, Bai Xiu chose to sing live at a music festival in a torrential downpour.

No vocal processing, no backup dancers, only a stubbornness soaked through by the rain.

That night, with a raw sincerity that tore through the crowd, he made countless people hear this: the voice that had been stolen had never truly fallen silent.

To keep his dream of making music free alive, he traveled to housing developments in county towns and stages in the countryside, enduring taunts that he had “fallen so low he was chasing money.”

He turned every bit of that “vulgar” pay into fuel for the “Hear You Fund,” choosing to support ordinary singers like himself, people with sincere hearts whose voices had gone unheard.

At the height of the Golden Melody Awards, he announced that all his work would be free forever and made everything he had learned freely available.

He was determined to prove it in the most uncompromising way: true music is born free. It takes root in every heart longing for a connection, not priced on the ledger books of capital.
