Qiao Yi, a newly qualified attending physician specializing in integrated Chinese and Western medicine in the twenty-first century, travels through time to the 1970s during a night shift. Qin Yanhua is an officer stationed on an island in the 1970s. To Qiao Yi, Qin Yanhua was the “worth getting to know better” from her blind date; to Qin Yanhua, Qiao Yi was love at first sight. In the end, they find their happy ever after.
Qiao Yi follows the troops to a remote yet peaceful, idyllic island in the north, where she puts her skills to work both at home and beyond.
At home, she puts her culinary talents to use: spring brings salted pork with bamboo shoots and fresh greens, summer brings clam and loofah soup, autumn brings lotus root and pork rib soup, and winter brings angelica, ginger, and mutton soup... Her little family enjoys every meal in comfort and contentment.
Outside the home, she puts her medical expertise to work: itchy skin from the damp weather at the eastern neighbor’s, stubborn mouth ulcers at the western neighbor’s, a child’s night terrors and crying at the southern neighbor’s, and an elderly gentleman’s knee osteoarthritis at the northern neighbor’s. Acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal decoctions, steam therapy... Her neighbors are all deeply grateful for her care.
Looking at the man before her, tall and straight-backed, handsome and dashing, and, most importantly, considerate, attentive, and just a little clingy, Qiao Yi thinks: Hmm... having a baby wouldn’t be so bad.
