Chanjuan is the princess of Liang, and the emperor, King Liang, dotes on her more than anyone.
As a princess, she lives in comfort and luxury, indulged and pampered. She even sneaks out of the palace now and then. She was born to a life of privilege and could have enjoyed all the world had to offer.
But then disaster struck! In a single day, the entire kingdom of Liang was overthrown by the vassal king Lin Que. In the morning she was a noble princess; by nightfall, she was a prisoner.
The rebel leader Lin Que was actually Mu Shuang, the man who had traveled the martial world with Chanjuan and fallen in love with her.
The man she loved was her kingdom’s destroyer!
Their supposed love had all been a joke!
Chanjuan wept bitterly, with no one to turn to. Unable to accept what had happened, she tried to take her own life.
Lin Que snatched away her sword and glared at her, bent on dying. “If you dare to die, I’ll kill Emperor Liang, whip his corpse for a hundred days, hang it on the city wall, and never let it be buried!”
Though Chanjuan wanted to die, she could not disregard her father. Even as a princess, she had no freedom in the imperial city now.
So she planned to rescue her father, but he suddenly died in the imperial prison!
Was it Lin Que?
Or the empress?
She decided to live for herself. She decided to take revenge!
Everyone believed the new emperor Lin Que was benevolent and would diligently govern for the good of the people. Who could have guessed that he would disband his harem with a single order and offend his father-in-law, all because he wanted to make her feel safe after forcing himself on her?
